India on Friday removed the restrictions on export of specified quantity of nine products including potatoes, onions, eggs, rice, wheat flour and sugar to Maldives for the current fiscal year.
'The export of above items ot Republic of Maldives will be exempted from any existing or future restriction/prohibition on export,' the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) said in a notification, adding that these exports have been permitted to Maldives under bilateral trade agreement between the countries during 2024-25.

Dammu Ravi, secretary, economic relations in the MEA, will visit Rwanda, Uganda and Kenya from April 7-12, as a 'reaffirmation of India's commitment' to further strengthen its ties of friendship with the three African countries. The Ministry of External Affairs, in a statement on Saturday, said the visit seeks to 'maintain the momentum of high-level contacts' between India and countries in Africa, post the entry of the African Union (AU) as a permanent member of the G20 during the Indian Presidency of the grouping.

The import of potatoes from India to Bangladesh has increased as 678 tons were imported on Wednesday through the Hili landport.
Importers said they will continue to import potatoes until the demand remains in the domestic market.
On Tuesday, 348 tons of potatoes were imported in 13 trucks and on Monday, 57 tons of potatoes were imported in two trucks through the port.

THE Department of Agriculture (DA) said the country's rice imports for this year were unlikely to reach the 4 million metric tons (MMT) forecast of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).
Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. said during a public briefing on Thursday that local production for the first quarter of 2024 was projected at 4.78 MMT, somewhat similar to last year's production.
