The global demand for Indian spirits is increasing, presenting an opportunity for growth. The Agricultural and Processed Food Export Development Authority (APEDA) plans to promote both the Indian alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages globally with a target of $1 billion in export revenue over the next few years. APEDA as part of the ‘Make in India’ initiative has been targeting to increase exports of Indian Spirits to major foreign destinations.India currently ranks 40th in the world for alcoholic beverage exports.

The government on Tuesday notified exports of 8,606 tonnes of raw cane sugar under the tariff-rate quota (TRQ) scheme to the US for the October 2024 - September 2025 period. Shipments under the TRQ enjoy relatively lesser customs duties. After the quota is reached, a higher tariff applies to additional imports.

The World Bank Tuesday raised the growth forecast for the Indian economy for FY25 to 7% from 6.6% projected earlier, led by a recovery in agricultural sector, private consumption and rural demand. India's growth continues to be strong despite a challenging global environment, and a recovery in agriculture will partially offset a marginal moderation in industry with services expected to remain robust, the multilateral lender said Tuesday in its India Development Update.
