India’s exports of agricultural and processed food products, after slowing down in the first three quarters of the current fiscal due to restriction on rice exports, have recovered, aided by a sharp spike in shipments of meat and daily products, and fruits & vegetables.
Exports of these items under the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) basket were just above the previous year level at $ 21.6 billion during the April-February period of the current fiscal year.

India’s basmati shipments are set to cross the $5 billion-mark during the current financial year on robust demand from traditional markets in Middle East and other markets such as the United States and the United Kingdom.

Basmati shipments have maintained a growth rate of about 20 per cent in the first ten months of the financial year 2023-24 (April-January) with the export value touching $4.586 billion. With shipments gathering pace in February, ahead of the Ramadan festive season, trade sources expect the value to exceed $5 billion for the current fiscal.

Indian exporters who want to avail the duty concessions on their shipments to the UK have to adhere to Britain’s new rules under their Developing Countries Trading Scheme (DCTS), the Directorate General of Foreign Trade said Monday.
The has replaced its existing origin declaration process under Generalized Scheme of Preferences (GSP) with the UK DCTS effective June 19, 2023.

With food poisoning and diarrhoea becoming a common occurrence, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is working towards creating a network of 34 microbiology labs across the country that will be equipped to test food products for 10 pathogens, including E coli, salmonella and listeria.
'These labs will help test food for microbial contamination that can lead to spoilage of food and potential health risks,' said a senior health official of FSSAI.

The Government’s push for millet crops has led to the increase in annual incomes of nearly three-fourths of the millet growers in Uttarakhand by about 10 to 20 per cent, reveals a study conducted by the Indian Institute of Management, Kashipur.
Four senior professors and five data collectors conducted the six-month study 'Millet Production in Uttarakhand: An Empirical Analysis of its Socio-Economic Impact and Marketability Challenges' on over 2,100 farmers.
