In developing countries, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), estimates that 30-40 per cent of total production can be lost before it reaches the market. If we talk about India specifically then a 2022 government-backed study showed that approximately 5-13 per cent of fruits and vegetables were lost between harvesting and consumption.
