Mangoes sweeten Air India’s cargo performance.
Air India is reaping the benefits of high global demand for mangoes, which witnessed a 15 per cent increase in exports this season. Buoyed by increased cargo capacity, in April the airline shipped 1,000 tonnes of the king of fruit and volume in May is higher than the previous month, an airline spokesperson said. The UK, the US, UAE, Canada, France, Germany and the Netherlands are the main export destinations. The top varieties exported include Alphonso, Safeda (Banganpalli) and Dussehri.

India-US trade pact: Effort on to facilitate preferential market access for both sides, says Piyush Goyal.
India and the United States are keen on providing preferential market access to each other's businesses, with teams from both nations collaborating on a proposed bilateral trade agreement, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal said on June 2. In February, Donald Trump and Narendra Modi underlined the two sides' intentions to negotiate the initial phase of a mutually advantageous multi-sector Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) by the fall of 2025, specifically targeting September-October.

'Will negotiate a fair balance,' Piyush Goyal optimistic of wrapping up FTA with EU by year end.
Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal expressed optimism that India could finalise its Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the European Union (EU) ahead of the year-end deadline, citing minimal divergences between the two economic blocs. Goyal emphasised the complementary nature of the Indian and European economies. 'There are not too many issues where we have divergence of opinion.

WTO: India to raise issues on agriculture, fisheries, investment facilitation at Paris meet on June 3.
India will flag its concerns on issues pertaining to agriculture, fisheries agreement, China-led proposal on investment facilitation and dysfunctional appellate body of the WTO during an informal meeting of about 25 trade ministers in Paris on June 3, an official said. The mini-ministerial meeting will be held on the margins of the OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) Ministerial Council Meeting in Paris.

Duty cut on edible oils expected to lower raw material costs for food companies.
The government’s move to slash import duty on crude edible oils is expected to reduce raw material costs for food companies starting Q2FY26. Players said that this could help lower raw material costs while offsetting higher costs of other commodities. Analysts believe it is also expected to lead to improvement in margins of consumer product companies in the coming quarters if the lower prices sustain.

Cherry on the rake: Red drupes from Kashmir’s orchards make their way to Mumbai.
The first parcel train carrying freshly-plucked cherries from the Kashmir Valley reached Mumbai on Sunday evening, completing a journey of nearly 2,000 km in around 30 hours. The train departed from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra station in Jammu on Saturday with a consignment of 10 to 12 tonnes of cherries, marking a milestone in efforts to boost horticulture exports from the region.

Bihar has tremendous potential for agricultural development: Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan visited Motihari to promote agricultural development in Bihar. He highlighted the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan (VKSA) campaign. The campaign aims to empower farmers with innovation and infrastructure. Focus is on increasing production of jardalu mango, shahi litchi, and marcha rice. The government is exploring ways to preserve shahi litchi for longer shelf life.

Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare releases Third Advance Estimates of Production of major agricultural crops for 2024-25.
The Third Advance Estimates of production of major agricultural crops for the agricultural year 2024–25, have been released by the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare. The country has achieved a record foodgrain production and is estimated at 3539.59 LMT, which is higher by 216.61 LMT than the foodgrain production of 3322.98 LMT in 2023-24 registering approx. 6.5% increase.
