Centre approves procurement of 2.5 lakh tonnes of mangoes from Karnataka
The central government has approved the procurement of mangoes from Karnataka. This is under the Market Intervention Scheme for 2025-26. Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy requested this due to surplus production and falling prices. The procurement price is set at ?1,616 per quintal. Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan responded to Kumaraswamy's concerns about low mango prices.

Indian basmati 24-25 exports up Rs1,923cr over last season
Despite the shadow of tensions between Iran and Israel, the export of Indian basmati rice surged by Rs 1,923 crore in 2024-25 fiscal year (April-March) compared with the previous fiscal year, according to the data available with the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA). The escalating Israel-Iran conflict over the last fortnight had held up Basmati shipments.In terms of value in rupees, the exports were about 3.97% higher than the 2023-24 fiscal year, according to the data compiled by the Kolkata-based Directorate General of Commercial Intelligence and Statistics (DGCIS), aided by the strong demand from the Middle East.

Govt bans import of watermelon seeds due to excess supply
India imported 83,812 tonne of watermelon seeds last fiscal against almost double the average import of 40,697 tonnes in the last three years, according to the Ministry of Commerce website.The government has taken the decision to ban watermelon seeds imports based on the plea by Laghu Udyog Bharati, an all-India organisation dedicated to protect interest of Micro and Small Enterprises.

Centre approves procurement of summer moong, urad in MP, urad in UP
The Agriculture Ministry has approved the procurement of summer moong and urad from Madhya Pradesh and urad from Uttar Pradesh at minimum support price (MSP).Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan held a meeting with the agriculture ministers of the two States and approved the procurement under the Price Support Scheme (PSS), according to an official statement.

Telangana custard apple seeks GI tag.
The famed Balanagar custard apple now seeks a Geographical Indication (GI) registration to protect its unique identity. Three farmer-based organisations – Pomal Farmer Producer Company Limited, Farmer Producer Company Limited and The Primary Agricultural Cooperative Society – have applied for the GI tag with funding support from the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD).

Paddy sowing so far this Kharif season is higher by 58 per cent at 13.22 lakh hectares, according to the government data. Sowing of paddy stood at 8.37 lakh hectares in the same period last year.

Asean not keen to review trade pact: Government.
Commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal on Tuesday said little headway was made in the review of 15-year-old free trade agreement (FTA) with Asean, despite nine rounds of negotiations since 2022.The minister's statement came days after controversy erupted over his comments on some of the Asean countries being a B-team of China. While the assertion was not taken favourably by some of the countries.

Protecting Indian interests to be supreme in India-US BTA talks: Officials.
India will stand firm on its stance in the proposed Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) negotiations with the US as its interests are supreme, an official said. Indian trade negotiators are set to travel to Washington soon to take the talks forward for an interim trade deal ahead of the July 9 deadline when the 90-day reciprocal-tariff pause period of the US ends.

Coffee Board of India reports surge in coffee exports.
Data released by the Coffee Board of India has shown an increase in the country’s coffee exports, with more than 25 per cent growth recorded so far in FY2025-26 compared to the previous year. The announcement from the Board highlights the continuation of a strong coffee export industry, which in FY2024-25 saw exports rise 40.20 per cent to stand at US$1803 million. This was up considerably compared to the US$1286 million recorded in FY2023-24.
