May 26, 2025 BRICS trade ministers' meet: India calls for dismantling export controls among members. India has urged member nations of BRICS group to dismantle export controls within the bloc to boost trade, an official statement said on Friday. Representing India at the 15th BRICS trade ministers' meeting in Brazil, Economic Adviser in Department of Commerce Yashvir Singh emphasised the need to eliminate restrictive trade measures that disrupt critical supply chains. May 26, 2025 Pakistan rice exports in trouble on internal, external conflicts. Pakistan rice exports in trouble as the unrest in Sindh has added the problems it is facing in shipping its consignments, after its bilateral relations with India deteriorated. In April, Pakistan rice exports declined to a little less than 44,000 tonnes, the lowest during the country’s current fiscal to June, data released by the State Bank of Pakistan showed. May 26, 2025 India, Brazil to sweeten global sugar output in 2025-26. Increase in sugar production in India and Brazil on account of favourable weather conditions is set to drive higher global output of the sweetener during the 2025-26 marketing year, starting October. According to the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), this increase will help offset the decline in the European Union. May 23, 2025 India seeks full exemption from US' 26% reciprocal tariffs in interim trade pact. India and the US are likely to announce an interim trade agreement before July 8, the day Washington's 26% reciprocal tariffs are due to come into force, an official said Wednesday. New Delhi is seeking full exemption from the additional 26% reciprocal tariffs on domestic goods, the official said, adding India will protect its sensitive sectors through quotas or minimum import price. May 23, 2025 India has scope to grow exports as supply chains are changing. An opportunity to grow exports is knocking on India’s door as supply chains are getting redrawn and steps which raise mid-tech labour-intensive exports can boost the country’s trade interlinkages, mass consumption, investment, and GDP growth, according to an HSBC report released on Thursday. While there is a general sense that India is mostly a domestic demand-driven economy, it is in periods of rising integration with the world that India has grown its fastest, the report states. May 23, 2025 India set for record wheat harvest after favourable weather boosts yield. India’s wheat output, which was threatened by the second-warmest February in over a century, is likely to be a bumper one this year as favorable weather during the crucial grain-filling stage improved yields. The world’s second-biggest grower is set for a record harvest as climatic conditions were good, and there were no reports of any major damage due to hailstorms or crop diseases, said Ratan Tiwari, director of state-run Indian Institute of Wheat and Barley Research. May 23, 2025 FSSAI makes closure report of food safety licences mandatory for FBOs. Food Safety & Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), the food regulator of the country, has made it mandatory for food business operators (FBOs) to submit closure reports on the licences/registrations which expired in FY2024-25. In case the food safety licences/registrations have expired, the operators have to confirm that no food business activity is being conducted from the respective premises since the expiry of the licences. May 23, 2025 UK to give non-discriminatory treatment to India in procurement under FTA. The UK for the first time has agreed to accord non-discriminatory treatment to Indian companies in its public procurement system under the free trade agreement (FTA) between the two countries, an official said.
