The UK government on Tuesday told Parliament that the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) talks with India have been relaunched to deliver a joint ambition of taking the bilateral relationship to 'even greater heights'. During a debate on UK economic growth in the House of Commons, British Indian Labour MP Jeevun Sandher asked Foreign Secretary David Lammy about the steps being taken to get a 'good UK-India trade deal over the line'.

India Exports 200,000 Tonnes Of Rice To Bangladesh Amid Flood Crisis.
Bangladesh’s interim government has begun importing rice from India as part of a significant move to secure the nation’s food supply. The first consignment of 27,000 tonnes of rice arrived at Chittagong port this week, marking the beginning of a larger import deal. The shipment is part of an agreement for Bangladesh to import a total of 200,000 tonnes of rice from India, according to a food official.

India, Oman trade ministers discuss advancing FTA negotiations pact
Trade ministers of India and Oman on Monday reviewed progress of the proposed free trade agreement (FTA) between the two countries and focused on advancing the negotiations for the pact.
The agreement was discussed between Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and Oman's Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion Qais bin Mohammed Al Yousef in Muscat.

Jaishankar to visit UK, Ireland in March; trade and economic ties top agenda.
Trade and economic cooperation and bolstering people-to-people ties will top the agenda for external affairs minister S Jaishankar’s week-long visit to the United Kingdom and Ireland next month, people familiar with the matter said. Jaishankar is set to travel to Britain and Ireland during March 3-9, days after the planned relaunch of negotiations on the India-UK free trade agreement (FTA) in New Delhi, the people said on condition of anonymity. This will also be the first high-level visit to Ireland since 2015, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi travelled to Dublin.

India has no plans to import wheat for now - Piyush Goyal.
India does not plan to import wheat and its farmers are likely to harvest a bumper crop that will boost stockpiles in the world's second-biggest producer of the staple, the trade minister said on Saturday. 'Ground reports indicate that the crop is quite good and this year's production is expected at a record 114 million metric tons,' Piyush Goyal told reporters.

Mr. Donal Brown, Associate Vice President of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), called on Dr. Devesh Chaturvedi, Secretary of Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare (DA&FW) at Krishi Bhawan in New Delhi today. During the meeting, Mr Brown appreciated India’s role as a founding member of IFAD, and longstanding and productive partnership with IFAD. Mr. Brown briefed the Secretary about IFAD’s collaborative projects with state governments, particularly in the North Eastern and Himalayan regions, focusing on building climate-resilient agricultural value chains; empowering women, youth, tribal communities; supporting marginalized farmers; and strengthening rural infrastructure.

15th round of India-UK FTA talks to begin in February
The negotiations on a free trade agreement (FTA) between India and the UK are expected to resume in early February, after months of pause due to the general election in the UK, a senior official said on Wednesday. The negotiations began in January 2022 and have been a long-drawn-out affair as a common ground on issues such as market access and rules of origin eluded the negotiators. There have been 14 rounds of talks so far and the last round concluded in March 2024, weeks before the UK elections in May.
