India may have a good rabi harvest, review by Agriculture Minister reveals.
While the India Meteorological Department said February had the highest-ever mean temperature since 1901 in the central meteorological subdivision comprising States such as Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat, it has come to light that the above-normal temperature has had little impact on rabi crops. The country should expect bumper harvest.

West Bengal potato production estimated at a record 130 lakh tonnes this year.
West Bengal is likely to harvest a bumper potato crop of over 130 lakh tonnes this year, backed by an increase in the area under cultivation and favourable weather. Bengal, the country’s second largest producer of potato, produced around 100 lakh tonnes of the spud last year.

India reinstates import duty on yellow peas.
India’s duty-free import regime of yellow peas has come to an end with no notification being issued for extending the facility, trade sources said. India began allowing duty-free import of the pulse from December 8, 2023, and has been extending it. The last extension, up to February 28, 2025, came on December 25, 2024.

India, Israel discuss ways to strengthen cooperation in agri sector.
Ambassador of Israel to India Reuven Azar on Friday called on Agriculture Secretary Devesh Chaturvedi and discussed opportunities for strengthening cooperation in agriculture and allied sectors between the two nations. The meeting focused on the upcoming visit of the Israel Agriculture and Food Security Minister, the impact of Centers of Excellence (CoEs) across 20 states on productivity, precision irrigation, post-harvest management, and market access issues.

Bangladesh launches new tender for rice purchase of 50,000 tonnes, traders claim.
The state grain buyer of Bangladesh has announced a new international bid to buy 50,000 metric tonnes of rice. The deadline to submit price offers is March 11, 2019. After a heavily damaged domestic crop last year, Bangladesh continues to purchase large quantities of rice on international markets.

Australia eyes investments in Assam’s water, education, and agriculture sectors.
Australia, a Country Partner at Advantage Assam 2.0 summit, has shown interest for investments in sectors like water, education, agriculture, and disaster preparedness in Assam, lying in the northeastern part of India. Identifying Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma as a friend of Australia, Philip Green OAM, the High Commissioner of Australia to India wrote a post on X on February 25, saying, 'I am here at Advantage Assam 2.0 to explore all that we can do together in sectors like water, education, disaster preparedness and agriculture.'

Mizoram boosts floriculture exports with first international shipment.
In a boost to India’s floriculture export potential, especially from the Northeastern region, the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), in collaboration with the Department of Horticulture, Government of Mizoram, facilitated the flag-off of the first consignment of Anthurium flowers from Aizawl, Mizoram to Singapore on 26th February 2025.

India a trusted friend, looking to elevate strategic ties: EU President.
Calling India a 'trusted friend' and 'a strategic ally', European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, who reached New Delhi Thursday with the European Union’s College of Commissioners, said she will discuss with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 'how to take our strategic partnership to the next level'. Modi and von der Leyen are to meet Friday. Her visit to India is taking place at a time when the trans-Atlantic partnership between Europe and the US is navigating uncertainty. India and EU are looking to unveil a new “strategic partnership roadmap” as they deal with the flux in geopolitics.

Japan-India-Africa Business Forum Held.
On Wednesday, February 26, the Japan-India-Africa Business Forum was held in Tokyo, co-hosted by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and Nikkei. More than 2,000 participants joined the forum, with both virtual and in-person participation from over 46 countries and regions. During the forum, speakers discussed how to fully utilize the potential of the enormous growth markets in India and Africa, and exchanged views on the challenges, the roles of the public and private sectors, and the outlook for building India as a business hub in this region.
