India likely to export 24 million tonnes rice in 2025-26, says USDA.
India is likely to export around 24 million tonnes of rice in the 2025-26 marketing year, thus cornering around 40 per cent of the market share, according to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). The USDA follows a marketing year, which starts in October and ends in September, unlike the Indian financial year that runs from April to March.

India's palm oil imports in April fall over 24% m/m.
India's vegetable oil imports in April plunged to their lowest in over four years, led by declines in palm oil imports, dragging inventories to their lowest in nearly five years, a leading industry body said on Wednesday. Depleted stocks may mean India, the world's biggest buyer of vegetable oils, will increase imports of palm oil and soyoil in the coming months, supporting Malaysian palm oil prices and U.S. soyoil futures.

Amid Donald Trump's latest comments linking the fate of Indo-US trade with the recent India-Pakistan border standoff, considerable progress is quietly being made between the two governments to ease up on procedural barriers weighing down bilateral trade involving several items. Case in point: Considerable progress has been made over the last fortnight to ease the import of US apples and other food items as well as lessen the pain points for export of the Indian shrimp to the US, ET has learnt.

India eyes bumper basmati crop as short-duration variety acreage set to rise 10%.
India is set to solidify its status as the world’s largest basmati rice producer, with the acreage under short-duration basmati varieties expected to surge by up to 10% this Kharif season (June to October) — a shift driven by better prices, faster crop cycles, and rising export momentum. 'We are anticipating increase in area of short duration basmati varieties by 7-10% as farmers got remunerative price last year,' said Satish Goel, president, All India Rice Exporters Association (AIREA).

Agriculture, public service key to achieve developed India goal: ICAR director general.
Emphasising that the aim of developed India cannot be achieved without developing the country’s agriculture sector, Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR) Director General M L Jat on Wednesday observed that government officials sincerely serving general public would help in achieving Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Vikshit Bharat in the years to come. Jat, who is also the secretary of the Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE), made these comments after inaugurating a training programme for officers from various Ministries and Departments (MDOs) of the Central government as part of the ‘Rashtriya Karmayogi – Large Scale Jan Seva Programme’, in the national capital.

India-US trade relations under focus as Piyush Goyal heads for talks in Washington.
Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal will lead a team of senior Indian officials to Washington from May 17-20 for discussions on the proposed Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) with the US Trade Representative (USTR) Jamieson Greer and US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick. The negotiations aim to secure early mutual wins through an interim trade arrangement, with the first phase of the agreement expected by fall 2025. Chief negotiators will meet separately from May 19-22.

Efforts on to push bilateral trade with Russia: FIEO.
The Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) Tuesday said efforts are on to increase bilateral trade with Russia and balancing it by facilitating more exports. Bilateral trade is pegged at $11 billion. FIEO president SC Ralhan said a an agreement inked with Russia last year enables Customs to recognise secure and compliant businesses and offer them trade facilitation benefits.
