Mangoes of Konkan exported abroad from Mopa’s cargo hub.
The creation of an air cargo logistics hub at the Manohar International Airport has kickstarted the export of mangoes from the Konkan region. The season’s first shipment, containing 3,368kg of Alphonso mangoes, was sent to Sharjah on an Air Arabia flight. A total of 600 tonnes of mangoes are expected to be exported to Europe and the UAE in the coming months, said GMR Goa International Airport Limited (GGIAL) officials.

FCI wheat procurement exceeds last year’s buy of 26.6 million tonnes.
The government’s wheat procurement through the Food Corporation of India (FCI) for buffer stocks has crossed last year’s purchase of 26.6 million tonnes (mt) and reached 27.36 mt as of May 4. The Centre purchased 23.13 mt of wheat in the corresponding period a year ago. The Agriculture Ministry has estimated a record production of 115.43 mt of wheat for the 2024-25 crop year (July-June).

Indian rice prices climbed to a near one-month high this week, bolstered by an appreciation in the Indian rupee despite tepid demand, while Thai rice prices remained steady due to low demand and abundant supply. India's rice prices for 5% broken parboiled variety was quoted at $390-$397 per ton, up from the last week's $389-$396. Indian 5% broken white rice was priced at $383 to $390 per ton this week.

State-run Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya (IGKV) has achieved a remarkable distinction, bringing honour to Chhattisgarh. The university's ‘Chawal Samagra Anusandhan Kendra (Rice Comprehensive Research Centre), Raipur, has been recognised as the best centre in India. The award was presented at the diamond jubilee ceremony of the annual rice meeting held at the Indian Rice Research Centre, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad. Additionally, the Genetics and Plant Breeding Centre, Raipur, was also awarded the title of best rice breeding funded centre.

India aims to boost agri-exports amid trade talks with US, EU.
