India's food safety authority has recognized certificates from Nepal's National Food and Feed Reference Laboratory (NFFRL). This follows a memorandum of understanding signed five years ago, allowing eight food items—juice, jam, jelly, pickles, candies, ginger, fresh fruits and vegetables, and instant noodles—to be tested in Nepal for export to India.

China has bought 52,000 tons of Indian rapeseed meal in the past three weeks - four times the amount Beijing imported from India in the whole of 2024 - after Chinese authorities imposed a 100% retaliatory tariff on Canadian imports, industry sources said. India's rapeseed meal exports will help China, the world's top consumer, replace imports from Canada while easing pressure on local rapeseed prices in India, which is sitting on large stockpiles of the widely used animal feed.

India on Tuesday asked visiting Israel’s agriculture minister Avi Dichter to allow import of Indian potato, garlic, turmeric, pineapple and grapes immediately while ensuring similar approval for onions, green chilies, mango and pomegranate at the earliest. On the other hand, Israel took interest in research activities to develop climate-resilient seeds, particularly of wheat and some other crops, while requesting India to allow citrus and avocado.

India and the European Union (EU) are exploring the option of negotiating their free trade agreement (FTA) in phases amidst an uncertain global trade environment following imposition of sweeping tariffs by the US, an official said. India has followed the practice of negotiating such trade pacts in two phases with Australia. Negotiating the FTA in two phases allows both sides to first conclude areas where agreement can be reached more easily. Complex issues can be dealt with at a later stage.
