Third year of India-Oz trade pact: India’s exports up 4.4% in Apr-Feb.
India’s exports to Australia have increased 4.4% on-year during April-February 2024-25 due to the free trade agreement which was implemented in 2022, the government said Wednesday. 'Following the signing and implementation of the agreement, total bilateral trade reached $24 billion in FY24, marking an impressive 14% growth in India’s exports to Australia as compared to 2022-23' the commerce and industry ministry said in a statement on the pact completing its third year.

Warangal’s ‘Chapata’ chilli gets GI tag.
This Ugadi, there’s some sweet news for Warangal farmerse growing hot chillis. Called Chapata chilli, or tomato chilli, this unique variety has got the Geographical Indication (GI) tag. As many as 20,000 farmers growing the niche variety are expected to benefit from this development through additional income.

EU pushes for MFN provision in India trade talks, eyes US-style concessions.
The European Union is pressing for inclusion of a 'forward most-favoured-nation (MFN)' provision in free trade agreement (FTA) talks with India, which would require the latter to make concessions similar to those offered to the US in a proposed bilateral trade pact. The issue of MFN status figured during the last round of India-EU trade negotiations in Brussels held a fortnight ago, people familiar with the development said.

GI tag for Thovalai maalai, Kumbakonam betel leaf soon in TN.
Four months after the publication of applications in the Geographical Indications (GI) journal, the Kumbakonam vetrilai (betel leaf) and Thovalai maanikka maalai (flower garland) are poised to receive the GI tag, said P Sanjai Gandhi, an intellectual property attorney and government pleader at the Madras High Court. He confirmed that the applications, filed by him did not face any objections within the stipulated four-month period. Hence, these products are now considered registered in the GI registry.

India's palm oil imports in March increased from the previous month but remained below normal levels for the fourth consecutive month, as its premium over rival soyoil prompted refiners to boost soyoil purchases, according to five dealers. The Agricultural Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), under the Department of Commerce, has intensified efforts to promote millet exports through trade fairs, exhibitions, and global awareness campaigns. CBIC to introduce e-processing of export, import through personal carriage by air pax from May 1.
The CBIC on Tuesday said it will introduce electronic processing of import/ export through personal carriage by air passengers from May 1 at specified airports. Nine airports at Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Kochi, Coimbatore, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Jaipur would allow personal carriage export of gems and jewellery. Seven airports Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Jaipur would allow personal carriage import of gems and jewellery.
