Indian exports soften on global tariff uncertainties, government says.
India's export growth has softened in the current fiscal year due to global tariff-related developments that have raised trade risks and affected investments and trade flows, the government said in its February economic report on Wednesday. Uncertainties around trade policies, geopolitical tensions, and volatile commodity prices pose significant risks to next year's growth outlook, the government said, while retaining its growth estimate for the fiscal year 2024/2025 at 6.5%.

Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) has been incentivizing setting up/expansion of Food Processing Industries including processing of millet-based products (Shree Anna) through its Central Sector Pradhan Mantri Kisan SAMPADA Yojana (PMKSY) Scheme, Production Linked Incentive Scheme for Food Processing Industry (PLISFPI) and Centrally sponsored PM Formalization of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) scheme across the country including North Eastern States and Odisha. These schemes are not region specific but demand driven.

State governments to ensure that there is no purchase below MSP: Union Agriculture Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
Union Agriculture Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that the Modi government is a farmer-friendly government.Under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Central Government is continuously working with full commitment for the betterment of farmers. Govt committed to purchase 100 per cent of tur, says Chouhan.
In a bid to achieve self-sufficiency and encourage farmers to produce more, the government is committed to procuring 100 per cent of the tur (arhar) through central agencies, said Union Agriculture Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Thursday. Also, the government has approved a total purchase of 27.99 lakh tonnes of gram (chana) and 28.28 lakh tonnes of mustard for the rabi marketing season 2025, besides extending the PM-Asha Yojana till 2025-26, according to an official statement.

India’s maize exports decline sharply on higher domestic demand.
India’s maize (corn) exports have declined sharply this year following a pick-up in domestic demand from segments such as ethanol manufacturers and feed makers. Besides, higher domestic prices have proved to be a dampener. 'Exports are taking place, but in limited quantities. During November and December, exports have taken place in good quantities, but before that the shipments were weak. However, compared to last year, the maize exports will be less,' said Rahul Chauhan of IGrain India.

Pakistan growing Indian basmati rice varieties ‘illegally’, India tells EU.
India has told the European Union that Pakistan is 'illegally growing' Indian basmati varieties and has submitted proof of DNA tests done in an European lab regarding this. 'We had the DNA of Pakistan-grown basmati varieties tested in an European lab. It has shown results that they are Indian varieties grown illegally in Pakistan,' said a government official, who did not wish to be identified.

India-US trade pact to be good for both; our interests will be protected: Piyush Goyal.
The ongoing talks between India and the US for the proposed bilateral trade agreement (BTA) are progressing and will be 'good' for both the nations while protecting India's interests, commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal said at the summit on Thursday. Govt approves procurement of 37.39 lakh tons of gram, lentils for 2025 rabi season.
The government has approved procurement of 37.39 lakh tonnes of gram and lentils, and 28.28 lakh tonnes of mustard for the 2025 rabi marketing season, Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said on Thursday. The government will procure the commodities through central nodal agencies Nafed and NCCF under the Price Support Scheme (PSS), with Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat being the major growing states.
