The Acting High Commissioner of India to Nigeria, Vartika Rawat has called for more improved bilateral trade and economic ties between the two countries for shared growth and prosperity. Apr 07, 2025 News Image India to implement new tariff line for rice exports from May 1.
A new tariff line regime for rice-based on process (parboiled, others) and on variety (rice recognised by the Geographical Indication Registry, Basmati, others) will be implemented by the Centre from May 1 for the cereal’s export, Minister of State for Commerce Jitin Prasada told Parliament on Friday. 'This will benefit the more than 20 GI varieties of rice, as defined and recognised by the Geographical Indications Registry under the Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration and Protection) Act, 1999, which are grown in more than 10 States/UTs of India,' he said in a written reply.

The Indian government has brought 'Roasted Areca Nuts' under a single code 08028090, placing it under the prohibited category against the earlier free regime. In its latest notification, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) brought ‘Roasted Areca Nuts,’ which was falling under ITC (HS) Code 08028090 and 20081920.

India’s agriculture market is set to touch Rs.38 lakh crore by financial year 2030, up from ?31 lakh crore in FY25, according to a report. This growth of approximately 4 per cent per annum will be largely driven by the changing consumer demand for food products, new farming methods and technological advancements, the report – Innovations in Agriculture brought out by 1Lattice and The Indian Venture and Alternate Capital Association (IVCA) – said. The report was released at the Startup Mahakumbh in Delhi recently.

Asserting that a situation of confusion persists in the world after the recent imposition of reciprocal tariffs by the US, NSE Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Ashish Kumar Chauhan on Sunday said India is doing much better than other countries. He said a clear situation is expected to emerge within the next one or two weeks as there will be negotiations and the duty structure will be stabilized.

Indian customs authorities are fast-tracking shipments headed to the US ahead of the Trump administration's April 9 deadline for 26% reciprocal tariff on New Delhi. Effective April 5, the US has imposed 10% additional duty on most goods entering the US from India unless they were already in transit. This tariff level is set to increase to 26% from April 9.

'The marketing season for Indian grapes has started off much better than last year,' says Corné van de Klundert of Origin Fruit Group. 'here was significant rainfall in India at the beginning of the season, leading to lower production per hectare. The local Indian market demands its usual volumes, making it more challenging for exporters to ship large quantities. Additionally, with high local prices, the risk for exporters has increased significantly.'
