India and the Netherlands are looking at firming up an ambitious agreement this year to facilitate cooperation in high technology areas such as semiconductors, Dutch Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp said on Tuesday. In a media interaction, Veldkamp said the Netherlands is also eyeing to firm up a strategic partnership with India as it is emerging as a major geopolitical power in the Indo-Pacific.

Department of Commerce, through Agricultural & Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) organized trade fairs, exhibitions and Millet Conclave for awareness, usage and export promotion of millets. Under the International Year of Millets 2023, a host of activities were conducted in close association with Indian Embassies/Missions and Government departments, which included millet themed participation in international trade fairs, sampling events, millet galleries, international buyer seller meets etc. Further, Millets are one of the key focus areas for enhanced branding and publicity in key global and domestic fairs, in which APEDA participates.

The European Union is pressing for inclusion of a 'forward most-favoured-nation (MFN)' provision in free trade agreement (FTA) talks with India, which would require the latter to make concessions similar to those offered to the US in a proposed bilateral trade pact. The issue of MFN status figured during the last round of India-EU trade negotiations in Brussels held a fortnight ago, people familiar with the development said. Such a move would imply that reduced duties would apply uniformly across all imports.

For the third consecutive year, India’s coffee exports have exceeded government targets, driven by rising prices, global demand and growing domestic production. For FY25, India’s coffee shipments crossed $1.816 billion, registering a 46 per cent increase over previous year’s $1.286 billion. In volume terms, coffee exports were up 1.56 per cent at 3.89 lakh tonnes (lt), based on the permits issued by the Board. In fact, coffee exports have more than doubled over the past five years since 2020-21, when shipments were $735 million.

The CBIC on Tuesday said it will introduce electronic processing of import/ export through personal carriage by air passengers from May 1 at specified airports. Nine airports at Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Kochi, Coimbatore, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Jaipur would allow personal carriage export of gems and jewellery. Seven airports Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Jaipur would allow personal carriage import of gems and jewellery.

India has exported 198.65 lakh tonnes of rice till March 25 of the last fiscal year, surpassing the outward shipment of 163.58 lakh tonnes in the entire 2023-24 financial year. In a written reply to Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Food and Consumer Affairs Nimuben Jayantibhai Bambhaniya said, 'The domestic production of agri-commodities. their availability and import/export is monitored closely by the government...'.

Trade restrictions imposed by the US through standards and other compliances are next only to the European Union on a platform that is being put together by the govt based on feedback from domestic industry. The commerce department, which is testing the portal, has received 24 complaints related to recent trade barriers erected by EU, followed by the US (22) and China (20), some of which have already been flagged by Indian officials during their interaction with American counterparts.

In a written reply to the Lok Sabha, he said with the changing trade scenario, India is moving towards having free trade agreements wherein customs tariffs and non-tariff barriers are reduced or eliminated on substantial trade.
