India, UK Spar Over Key Issues as Trade Pact Nears Finish Line.
Talks between the UK and India on a free trade agreement have entered the final stretch, with both sides now wrangling over five unresolved issues, according to an official in New Delhi familiar with the matter. India’s Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal will tackle some of these issues during his two-day visit to the UK that begins Monday, the person said, asking not to be identified as the discussions are private. He is scheduled to meet Business and Trade Secretary Jonathan Reynolds and Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves, the person added.

Record Myanmar crop, higher rabi and zaid output to weigh on urad prices.
Prices of urad or black matpe continue to trend lower on weak demand. This comes amidst good rabi crop arrivals and expectations of higher imports from Myanmar, which has harvested a record crop this year. Also, with summer crop set to hit the markets in state such as Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh in the weeks ahead, the prices are likely to come under further pressure, trade sources said.

India prepares ground to curb GM alfalfa seed import as US seeks market access.
With the US pushing India to reduce import duty on alfalfa (lucerne) fodder seed, the government is preparing the ground for restricting the genetically modified (GM) version of the crop from entering the country. The Americans grow both GM and non-GM varieties of alfalfa, which derives its name from the Arabic world al-fasfasa that means the best forage.

UP aims to triple exports to Rs 5 lakh cr in next five years with help of new policy.
Uttar Pradesh is working on a policy to promote exports and triple the outbound shipment from the state to over Rs 5 lakh crore in the next five years by tapping new markets and products. To achieve the target, the state government is working on a new export policy for 2025-30 which is expected to be approved soon.

India will be fiercely competitive on many products due to comparative matrix of tariffs: Jyotiraditya Scindia.
The current global tariff environment notwithstanding, India is expected to stay competitive due to its vast domestic market, scale advantages, and focus on innovation, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has said, asserting that seen even from the lens of a comparative matrix of tariffs vis-a-vis other nations, India holds a more favourable position. In a recent interview to PTI, Scindia - who is the Minister for Communications as well as Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) -noted that given that other nations too face varying levels of tariffs, India will likely emerge "fiercely and much more competitive" across numerous products than before.

Govt collating data of indirect exports of Indian goods to Pakistan from third countries: Sources.
The government is collating data to figure out the quantum of indirect exports of Indian goods to Pakistan from third countries in a bid to check such rerouting of shipments to the neighbouring country, sources said. The government is working with the industry to look into alternate routes for shipments of goods through air route in the backdrop of Pakistan closing its air space for Indian carriers, they said.

High US tariffs pushing Chinese exporters to tap Indian firms for shipments to America: FIEO.
American sourcing firms and exporters in China are approaching Indian companies to supply goods to the US as high tariffs imposed by Washington are making it difficult for them to ship directly to America, apex exporters' body FIEO said on Monday. The US has imposed 145 per cent tariffs on Chinese goods entering the American market. For India, the duty is just 10 per cent.

FTA talks with UK in advanced stage: Trade minister Piyush Goyal.
India and the UK on Monday held discussions to advance negotiations on the free trade agreement (FTA). Commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal, who is on a two-day visit to London, said he held a 'productive' meeting with UK's Secretary of State for Business and Trade, Jonathan Reynolds, to give an impetus to the talks, which are in their advanced stages.

Indian Delegation visits Pretoria, South Africa for the second session of the India-South Africa JWGTI.
A nine member delegation held the Joint Working Group on Trade and Investment meeting with the South African side in Pretoria, South Africa on 22nd – 23rd April, 2025. The discussions were held in a cordial and friendly atmosphere and were fruitful.
